CLEP Information

UMass Boston is an open CLEP center.

CLEP stands for the College Level Examination Program.

We offer the computerized CLEP exams in our Testing Center located in the Campus Center UL 130. Please call 617-287-5522 to schedule an appointment to take an exam. Each exam is 90 minutes long. Testing sessions may last approximately two hours.

• Total cost for CLEP is $90.00.
• $25.00 UMass Boston's administration fee paid at time of registration (check or money order) no cash please
• $65.00 for the test itself, made payable to CLEP at time of test. (check, money order or credit card). The CLEP exam fee will increase to $70.00 beginning July 1, 2008.

CLEP applications must be received two weeks prior to your selected date. Test times will be assigned according to availability. You will receive a test confirmation by mail before the test. Test results are immediately available upon completion of the exam and reports will be generated to your school.

Registration Tips

1. Complete the CLEP Registration-Admission form. Forms are available in the Testing Center, located at the Campus Center UL 130 or you can download them from www.collegeboard.org/clep
2. Submit your form with the $25.00 administration fee per exam, make checks payable to UMass Boston. This fee is non–refundable.
3. Mail your completed form and fee to:

4. UMass Boston students must comply with our CLEP credit policy and submit a waiver for credit approval to the Undergraduate Education office. Click here for this form. (PDF form)
5. To view how many UMass Boston college credits you will receive based on your CLEP exam score. See the following chart. (pdf form)
6. All other students should consult your school's transfer office or advising department to review the institution's CLEP policy.
7. Copies of the College Board's Official Study Guide for CLEP are available for review at the Testing Center and in the Career Resource Library. It can also be downloaded from the College Board Web site at: www.collegeboard.org/clep
