Student Referral Program
To increase students’ chances of academic success, this program enables faculty to refer “high risk” students to the University Advising Center for help. Students may also refer themselves to the program.
Referral may happen at any point in the semester, although the sooner we can meet with the student, the better the chance for a positive outcome.
What is a high risk student? Someone having trouble in class for any of the following reasons:
- Poor attendance
- Insufficient academic skills
- Difficulty keeping up with homework assignments
- Low grades on quizzes, tests, etc.
- Poor writing skills
- Personal problems that interfere with school work
What does the Student Referral Program do?
We meet with students referred to us, assess their needs, and develop an action plan for success in the class in question. We collaborate closely with referring professors and inform them of our progress.
How do you make a referral?
Call us at 617.287.5513, fill out our Student Referral Online Form or visit us in room 1100, first floor, Campus Center.
We need to know:
- the professor’s name
- the course name
- the student’s name and UMS#
- reasons for the referral, and
- if the student knows about this referral
If you have any questions, please contact Linda Hamilton, program coordinator, at extension 617-287-5513.
