Transfer Students: First Steps
New Student Orientation is a must for all incoming transfer students. This is a two–part program. Some students may be able to skip Part One, but all must attend Part Two.
Part One: Skills Assessment. There are two placement tests, one for reading/writing and one for math. You may need to take one or both tests to identify the courses you may need to strengthen your reading, writing and math skills — vital for university–level study in all majors.
Part Two: Orientation & Advising. This is a full–day program to give you the best possible transition into UMass Boston campus life. It consists of a comprehensive introduction to the university and an academic advising session, which includes math placement advising. This is when you register for classes.
To determine if you need the reading/writing assessment, answer the following question below. You’ll receive a recommendation based on your answer.
