Accreditation and transfer of credits need to be part of your decision-making process as you examine study abroad programs. Programs that carry a U.S. accreditation qualify for credit transfer to UMass Boston. Most study abroad programs are sponsored by an American university and therefore carry that institution’s accreditation. To assure proper transfer of credits from your study abroad program into UMass Boston, you are required to meet with the study abroad coordinator and complete a Request for Prior Approval of Transfer Credit of Study Abroad Programs form, which can be obtained in the Study Abroad office. Also, if you plan to take courses to count towards your degree, departmental approval will be required beforehand.
